Caught one of these (due to my own inattentiveness) and cracked a wheel yesterday.
There's nothing like opening your door to the sound of all of the air in a tire leaving it as quickly as physics will allow. Still haven't quite figured out what the point of these giant, several-inch tall, 4 or 5 inch wide bumps is. I know they're "protecting" the turn lane, and I appreciate trying to keep assholes from making poor driving maneuvers, but these things are way over the line, my momentary lapse of attention aside.
Glory day. At least a new wheel is only $250? Hope the tire isn't toast as well, as it's brand-fucking-new.

I kept clicking on this post to hear about the prank call to Ed Rooney.
Don't worry, it only took two click before I realized there was no phone call.

They really are a stupid idea. Who on earth thought otherwise.

Don't know if I'd trust a tire that took a hit strong enough to crack a wheel...

We dont have those in colorado, theyd come off with the snow plow

Never seen them before. Don't like.

Yeah, we don't have these in Wisconsin. The snow plows would fuck them up.
The plows peel off the little lane reflectors as it is, and those are only a half inch tall.

What kind of wheel? I wouldn't think they would be bad enough to toast a wheel... That's harsh.

Ah the turtle shells of Texas and Southern California.
We have a few of those around Atlanta, GA.

Yeah, these are pieces of junk; I hit one at night near the place in the photo; no reflective paint. Ended up with a bent outer tie rod. Garbage.

We gottem down here in Texas and I hate them too.. I really feel that the city should be paying the damages to your car seeing as these "bumps" are large enough to damage a normal vehicle. I had a JDM Front Type R integra back in the day and the same day I got it I mean within 3 hours of having it I broke a rim and cracked a lip on one. Granted that car was pretty low and had low profile tires but still fuck these things.

Holy shit, my whole front suspension would rip out.

These must have been developed by some sort of anti-stance task force.

I did the opposite last week - I lost the tire not the wheel!

One good use for all the snow we get.

I'm hoping I just just the tire or just the wheel (not 100% certain yet which it is, but I'm fairly certain it's the wheel). That looks horrendous.

You raise a good point. I haven't a clue which it actually is.

Yeah, this is in Dallas and the vehicle I was driving is entirely stock.

Stock 135i M-Sport wheel. Not 100% sure it's toast, but I couldn't see any visible damage on the tire. We'll see.

Fuckin' Dallas, man.

The man could squash my nuts into oblivion.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that in roads. I've always lived in places that get snow.

Worth a call to the city. Also worth a call to a local news station. You know as well as I do Dallas news loves random bs like this. Not that what happen to you isn't significant but if you can get a news station to do a story on it you might have a chance at 1 getting those city titties removed and 2 the city paying for part of the repair.

It's worth a shot, I guess, but these things have been all over the older parts of town for forever and it was my own inattentiveness that caused it, at the end of the day. I might fire off an email to the city, though.

I'd be willing to do the same thing . I completely forgot this but a few years ago I had a 2005 Yamaha R6 street bike and was going through a business park when a BMW cut me off pulling into a liquor store. I swerve to not hit the BMW and hit one of these exact things were talking about here and flew over the handle bars... still have a scar on my elbow from it .. sold the bike hours late.. actually about 45 minutes later lol

Ya, I guess it is

They should. File a claim against the city. If enough people do that then maybe they'll take them out.
